Re-re-Filming

Heya.

Well finally I think we've done enough filming to come up with a good final piece. We came into school at eleven o clock and once we'd all woken up we started filming. The first scene was a shot of Taylan, hood up, looking dark and intimidating, outside school. Then we strapped the camera to the bike for a smooth, creature like effect and got a few point of view shots of the evil... not quite sure what it is snaking around the school and shrinking up the stairs. But a difficulty we kept facing was space on the camera. Throughout the day we had to take three trips to the media suit to download the footage and delete it off the camera. So after doing this for the second time we filmed our last shot in a classroom. We used a range of shots and I think once we edit them together we will create a scary, heart-racing thriller opening. I think that there were not set roles that we kept to. I think that each participant in the group did a bit of filming, editing and directing. I think that maybe in the future, something that could be improved is assigning set roles for everyone. I think that this would make it fairer as some people end up doing more work than others. I think that the whole experience has been frustrating, annoying and time-consuming. But I think that once we are faced with the end result, we will feel content, confident and collected. Well... I hope so anyway. I think I have learned that team work and relationships is very important when making a film sequence. Without strong relationships we have nothing to build our films on. Overall I think we had a poor group dynamic, but after this experience I think it has grown and we had learned we can work well together.

Re-filming

Well finally after a week of fighting, we have decided to start again. We decided on a mix between the original and the second one we started. Today we have come in to re-film (yes in the Christmas holidays) dedication? I think so! So far its going quite well. I woke up my group and we got here on time... almost. And we've started filming. I'll blog later to ket you know how it went

Rough Cut/Editing

Two lessons ago we showed the class our rough cut and got feedback. Everybody seemed to think it was good and if we carried on editing, we could achieve a high level We are still in the process of editing and have been adding in pieces of film that we filmed later. When we watched the rough cut we decided that it was not completely for filling the genre. We sat down together as a group and brainstormed and decided to film a the teacher getting killed. This way, the audience would understand the storyline more, without giving away the whole plot. We have not yet got to the title's and have not discussed what we will do to create them but I believe that this is what we will be doing next lesson.

Production Obstacles

8th October 2010

We faced a few obstacles while filming. One, was that nobody in my group organized actors. This created an argument because we disagreed on who's job that was. However, I searched the school and found a few people that were willing to help us out. Another problem was that people were messing about a little bit and not getting straight to work. This annoyed me because I wanted to get the filming over and I ended up loosing my temper. Hopefully in the future I will learn to keep my calm and be more understanding. I think a large obstacle we faced was acting. Jamie volunteered to act and we allowed him without seeing his acting. This was a mistake because he was terrible at acting bringing down the whole mood of the film. However, I think we handled these problems and worked around them well.

Production Success

8th November 2010

This is the day that we filmed our piece. I was very pleased with the turn out. I think that we achieved a variety of shots and were left with enough material to edit and create a good horror opening. I was quite proud of myself because we faced a couple of difficulties and mishaps but we worked through them and compromised and we completed the task. We are also ahead of schedule which is great

Starts with shots of the school in silence then flicks to a classroom.

Teacher: Right guys, its official. You’ve finished your coursework. Well done I’m really proud of you. You can pack away. Have a good holiday.

Class packs away. Talk among themselves. Walk in to the hallway. White figure behind them. No one notices.

Bella: Yes no more media for a whole year.

Jake: How are you guys celebrating?

Bella: Um I’m kinda thinking to go Ambers party.

Jake: Yeah I heard about that. You guys coming yeah?

Luke: Yes obviously. Oi Becca, is James coming?

Everyone: Ooh James.

Teasing Becca.

Becca: Shut up man. Leave me.

Laughs

Samuel: Hey guys wait up

Sam runs behind. Everyone groans.

Samuel: What are you guys doing tonight?

Jake: Um, nothing sorry bye.

Samuel: Well I’ll stick with you guys

Becca: O…k then, hahahaa

Looks at Luke and they start laughing.

Bella: Guys don’t be mean, sorry about them. We might be going to a party. Want to come?

Samuel: Yeah! Sure.

Luke picks up phone pretends to talk.

Luke: What’s that Amber? The parties cancelled? Aw what a shame. Sorry sam.

Everyone walks off quickly.

Jake: Come on Bella!

Bella: Well, see you later Sam. Have a good holiday.

Sam tries to catch up with them and trips dropping his stuff. Everyone laughs Bella looks at him, then carries on walking.

Sam: Don’t worry guys I’m… gets cut off as they turn the corner fine… *sighs**

Starts to pick up his stuff.

Sam: mutters Its okay sam. One day, she’ll come back to me.

Monster: In Bella’s voice. Hey Sam, sorry about them.

Sam: Its oka… turns around. What the fuck…? Who are you…? No… no… AHHHHHHHH.

Flicks to shot of people outside school. They realise they are locked in.

Luke: Oh my days. Lets go get Ms. Flavell. It would be us to get locked in.

STORYBOARD

Synopsis

In the opening we are going to have a series of random clips that doesn't really make sense. this is going to build suspense. we will have kitty and her younger brother rory the first killers. we will film in the school. every time kitty and or her brother rory kill someone they have the same mask as them and they start killing people too. so the killers are multiplying. We are hoping to mix both the thriller and the horror genre by basing the movie at night with lots of shadows and mystery. The killers will be wearing completely dark clothes and pale white masks that will give them a spooky aura. To make it a thriller the opening will be broken up by the credits which will be intrusive ensuring the viewer only sees snapshots of what is going on. it will be erriely atmospheric. we will have quick cuts and very unnatural noises.

Last lesson we were discussing our final ideas. Jamie drew the story board, George did the call sheet, and me and Taylan wrote the script. We got together and discussed our ideas. We decided that in the opening one person gets killed. Our story is about a group of students that get locked inside school and end up getting killed on buy one. However, we are only filming the opening. In the opening sequence a group of teenagers are discussing a party. A boy called Sam asks if he can come. They laugh and walk away. When he's trying to run after them he trips over. When picking up his stuff he is confronted and killed by the killer. Then we will flick to a shot of the teenagers realising they are locked in and walking back into school.
I am really looking forward to filming but I am especially exited for editing. This is someting I feel I am quite good at and is possibly something I would like to pursue.
What I hope to get out of the filming session is a wide range of shots to create an interesting atmosphere in the final piece.

Sorry

Sorry guys, haven't written in really long. Okay i'll catch up.

On the last day of school I filmed my preliminary exercise for the third time and uploaded it to my laptop. Over this holiday I have been editing it and trying to work my way around Final Cut Pro. I used to using i-movie so I'm finding it a little difficult to adjust. For example, I can't put effects on it yet. I may need to stay behind one day after school and learn a little bit more about how to use it.

I have also been working on my second powerpoint about thrillers. My first one was on 'Panic Room'. I've attached it to this post. I am currently working on the second one. I decided to do my second one on Creep. I suppose this film could slightly fall under the horror genre but I think it's more of a thriller. As i'm scanning the screen I realise I can't remember how to attatch a file. I'll do it on my next post.

Todays Lesson

In todays lesson we watched back the video footage that we filmed. I was quite irriated because it turned out that we weren't filming when we thought we were. So therefore we will have to re-film tomorow after school. Hopefully it won't take that long. We are fully prepared so we should be done and ready to film by next lesson.
